It’s alive! (almost)

After much hard work and dedication, my latest book is set to be published on March 25, 2022! Where will this fine piece of artistry be available, you ask? Well….it’s going to be via Amazon.

“But, Libra! Didn’t you delete your previous works from Amazon and vow to release this series elsewhere?” Well….yes, I did. However, my foray into alternative means of publication proved to be a disaster. I tried to go with Ingram Spark. I had heard great things, and I know a person who published their books there and seemed to have no issues. I spent (I kid you not) two and a half days, literally 10+ hours at a time, trying to figure out how to get my manuscript to load into their editing system properly! I tried every possible option, Googled everything I could, and I came to the conclusion that Ingram Spark ~~can suck my asshole~~ was not the place for me.

What I struggled to do with Ingram Spark over more than two days, I did in less than an hour and a half on Amazon. My print book manuscript uploaded on the first try with zero errors. While Ingram Spark wanted me to convert my manuscript to an epub3 file, which I did several times via several different softwares only to have it rejected each time due to undefined errors which made me believe Ingram Spark tries to force people towards the option to pay them to convert your file so they can charge $0.25 per page on top of the processing fee for ebooks, Amazon accepted my PDF upload and did the conversion for me at no added charge, plus it retained all my original formatting. Bravo, Amazon.

Long story short, your beloved Twisted Libra is back with Amazon. My new series is called “Tales from the Twisted Libra Cemetery,” and book one will be subtitled “Life After Death.” There will be three books in all, and both paperback and ebook versions will be available. Book one debuts on March 25, but you can already preorder an ebook copy if you’d like! (Although I feel the print copy does it more justice. Just saying.) Book news and a field trip!

BOOK NEWS!

If you listen to my podcast (and if you don’t, please give it a try), you know I am finally releasing my new book series this year! There will be three books total, and the first book will be out this month! The series is called “Tales from the Twisted Libra Cemetery,” and book one will be subtitled “Life After Death.” In the next week or so I hope to have the cover art reveal! Stay tuned for that! If you have been with me since the beginning, you know I already released a few books on Amazon. Well, those have been removed from print and are no longer available. My new series will be distributed through Ingram Spark, and as soon as I have links for purchase I will get them posted on all my media platforms! I am so excited!

Now, on to my field trip! I visited the Cedar Grove Cemetery in New Bern, NC. This is known as one of the 7 most haunted cemeteries in the state! I wasn’t able to stay past sunset, unfortunately, but I did get a ton of incredible pictures! Here is an edited photo I posted on my Instagram:

Snowfall in the Cemetery

The flurry subsides; a delicate alabaster blanket spreads over the field of finality.

Moonbeams dance across the graves, the silence as pristine as their snow-white hue.

A gentle winter breeze dances among the tombstones like a spectral coryphee.

There is tranquility on this side of the veil; yet, in the quiet of night, the dead still make their presence known.

Oh, look…there’s my blog…

Bad libra. The blog has once again been neglected! I have a lot I want to say, but I am afraid I hit a snag with some writer’s block. The ideas are churning but the tunnel is closed off. It sucks. I did just finish a pretty good script for my podcast that I plan to record later tonight, so that helped to get the creative groove going again.

One thing that has kept me from writing much lately is the book I am currently reading. I am still working my way through the Anne Rice vampire chronicles, and I am about 3/4 finished with The Vampire Lestat. It is such a great story, and I do struggle to put it down when I need to. I don’t just want to finish the entire series…I want to consume all of it. It is that good. Whenever I should be writing, I find myself reading instead. Not a terrible dilemma, but not quite so conducive to my productivity.

Dark visions…

I envision a place where time stops, the breeze the only movement other than my own. Faceless voices whisper to me, calling me back to my sinister home. My comfort found in a palace of demise; corpses gathered inside decrepit tombs, awaiting the moment their master beckons them to rise. The sweet odor of death surrounds me, filling my lungs with decay and rot. I find myself at peace here, in this chamber of the dead which time has forgot.

Ups, downs, and in-betweens…

Last week, I decided to postpone my podcast and just release a new episode every two weeks. I still feel that was the right move. Since the last episode, I have felt more productive and I was able to focus on my writing and catch up on my reading list. So far, Operation Don’t-Overwhelm-Yourself-You-Jackass has been a success!

Speaking of writing…you know how I posted a few weeks ago that I had finished the manuscript? Well, my fellow writers know that no manuscript is ever truly finished; we are constantly tweaking and improving our work. Even after we publish it. I drive myself crazy with that sometimes. I have nearly completed the 3rd revision on the new book, and will be sending it out to my illustrator very soon. Anyone want to place bets on how many drafts it will take to get finalized?

As for my reading, I am in book 2 of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. I have found almost the entire collection used (I have a thing for used books lately), but now that she has passed I bet they disappear or become highly overpriced! Oh well. I will read them all eventually. I regret not getting into these books back in my teenage Libra years. I admit, I allowed my dislike of Tom Cruise to convince me the source material to the popular flick was not worth my time. I was so very wrong. (Yes, Shellie. You were right. Happy?) Now, I can even admit that old Tom did a rather decent portrayal of Lestat. Yes, that one hurt to type. But it’s true. I can’t wait to read them all.

Still not a vampire, but boy do I suck lately…

I have been seriously neglecting my blog. I don’t mean to, it’s just that I have had a difficult time focusing lately. Maybe it’s the rush of the holiday season; maybe it’s that I have given myself too many tasks; whatever the reason, I feel like I have more free time than ever, and yet no time at all. Can a person really be relaxed and overwhelmed at the same time?

Leave it to me to complicate life. I want to do so many things. I want to finish writing my books. I want to put more effort into my podcast. I want to keep this blog up. I want to read the entire Vampire Chronicles. I want to create year-round spookiness for you all to enjoy. And I kind of want to nap until after New Years. I don’t wish to complain; my life is pretty good right now. Better than it has ever been. I just feel like a piece of taffy being split between several people.

It’s not burn out. I have plenty of awesome ideas to bring to (after)life. Maybe it’s a lack of motivation? True, when I have way too much to do, I tend to shut down and accomplish nothing until I am pressed to do so. Funny, people always claim that they would do so much more if they only had the time. I said that myself in the past. Now I have ample time and I feel frozen in place. Why is my brain like this? Why do I merely tread water when I want so badly to reach the shore?

Okay, no more self pity. And no more neglecting this blog. I appreciate all (three) of you who read this. It means a lot to me. I’d rather have a handful of loyal readers than a mass of popularity bots. I am not in this for money, fame, or social media likes. I am doing what I love. I am following my passion. So, if only one person ever reads this or hears my podcast or buys my books, then so be it. I am on the right path, and living my own little dream. I need to stop feeling overwhelmed and start creating again. I can’t let my own expectations get the best of me like this. I have to remain calm. I have to stay focused.

I am off to create some festive fright for the holidays!

Life update…

I really should blog more. I have so much to say, but I often get sidetracked lately. I figured I could drop by and give you all a little glimpse into the life if the Twisted Libra! Wait, don’t run! I promise to keep it brief!

For starters, the book is coming along nicely. In typical me fashion, I sent the rough draft of the manuscript to my illustrator, only to write another story that I want to add in, so I have to retool the manuscript and resend it. I don’t know why I do shit like this.

I can’t reveal too much about the book yet, but I will say that it will be the first in a series. That’s right. I am writing a book series. It’s quite terrifying to admit that publicly, because now it is real and I can’t turn back. But there you have it. The new book is actually part of a new series that I hope you all will enjoy! Aside from the book, my weeks have been filled with writing and recording my weekly podcast. It is so much fun, and I really enjoy sharing dark and twisted topics with you all! Over the last few days, I managed to get my show added to Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts, in addition to Spotify and Anchor FM.
